About Westwood Real Estate

Welcome!  I’m so glad you found me.  Westwood Real Estate is a local full service real estate company specializing in properties in Mendocino County, but also serving both southern Humboldt and Lake Counties. In 2024 Kent Westwood retired after over twenty years in the business and I became the new owner/broker.  The office is located in the community of Laytonville in northern Mendocino County.   I share an office with the Eel River Recovery project an organization dedicated to the health of the Eel River Watershed.  My mentor Kent was involving in real estate in Long Valley for over twenty years, including; homes, rural property, ranches, farms, and land.  I learned a lot from him, and I’m excited to build this business and move it into the future.  When you work with me I promise to give you the personal attention you need to achieve your real estate goals no matter what they are and I will help you navigate whatever hurdles may be in the way.   I understand that your time is valuable. That is why honesty, integrity and hard work are the pillars to our mutual success. I will strive to provide the highest level of service, and competence guided by the code of ethics of the National Association of Realtors.

I do not put pressure on my clients. My goal is to guide them through the sometimes confusing sales process with humor, grace and competence.

Stop by the office or give me a call if you have any questions about the local market! I’d love to help.

Joseph Morf

Real Estate Broker/Owner

As a Northern California native and full time real estate professional I have the experience, understanding and passion required to locate and find your dream property. My clients describe me as trustworthy, level headed, knowledgeable, creative, quick-witted and responsive. My mission is to demystify the home and land buying process for my clients by being completely transparent.

I believe that I have a unique perspective as I grew up in San Francisco and Napa Counties but have lived in Humboldt/Mendocino County for over 20 years. For anyone wishing to make a similar transition I would be a valuable resource. I have built a network of local and competent solar installers, well drillers, debris cleanup and tree removal experts that can help you to develop your new/old piece of land.  I also understand what it takes to prepare a property for the marketplace and can guide you through the steps needed before putting it on the market.

In my seven years of working under my broker and friend Kent Westwood I have learned much about off-grid living, water systems, springs, organic farming and solar power. Kent was part of the original back to the land movement in the 70’s and I feel so lucky to have learned from him. With his help I have attained the knowledge to help navigate a new chapter in our communities history.

I was an agent for seven years before I passed the brokers exam and took over this small business.  My 1st year as owner had its ups and downs, but I pressed on and was able to complete 12 sales including negotiating the purchase (by me) of my neighbors home.

This gives me 1st hand experience of what it is like to be a buyer in this local market.   It is expensive, especially fire insurance.  My window of opportunity was small.  Interest rates were high.  The margin was thin.  I was basically threading the needle.  I bought a home filled with my neighbors things and allowed them to move across the country with only a small trailer.  The property was a mess.   The house was filled with junk.  The goal was to clean up and get rid of their things.  Then move in. Then remodel my old house and rent it.  All while continuing to run my new business.  It was hard, but I did it.   I had hoped to use more of my income last year to put into the business, but I could not pass on the opportunity and I’m glad I didn’t let it slip by.

I wish to help others dream big.

I wish to help people remove the obstacles that are keeping them from moving forward.

I wish to help people seize opportunities as they present themselves.

Mendocino County is filled with opportunity.  We have the coast, highway 101 and we are only a few hours from the Bay Area.   In comparison to the rest of the state the price of land here is reasonable.

I love Mendocino County.  Outside of work I spend my time gardening, cooking, hiking, playing music in local bands, going to the coast, working on my house and attempting to tire out Dave my Golden Retriever and Talulah my Australian Shepard.

I look forward to meeting you.

-Joe
